Abstract：ManyofwesternaestheticiansstartwithaparisonbetweenthenatureandartintheirnaturalAesthetics,bywhichtheyfindouttheuniqueaestheticqualitiesofthenatureandputastressontheindependenceofaestheticappreciationofthenatureaswell.However,theyfailtorealizethatsuchaparisoncanalsoinviteanunexpectedramification,namely,ahugemisleadingtonaturalaesthetics：inthesenseofhistoryofaestheticappreciationofthenature,itseemstobehardforustoimageaestheticappreciationofthenaturebeforethebirthofart；inlogic,it’salsoimpossibletobuildnaturalaestheticswithoutthehelpofart.Yet,literaturesinChineseancientAestheticsseemtosupportanotherhypothesis：theaestheticappreciationofthenatureisprobablytheearliestaestheticpractice.Itcanentirelysurvivewithouttheaidfromart.Aestheticappreciationofthenaturecannotonlybeindependentofart,butalsoprovidenecessarypsychologicalfoundationforart-making.Itisnotthataestheticappreciationofthenaturedependsonart,butartdependsonaestheticappreciationofthenature.So,insteadoftheparisonbetweenthenatureandart,anadequatenaturalaestheticsoughttostartwithanindependentandsystematicinvestigationoftheexperienceofaestheticappreciationofthenature.
