Theproductionofwaterproofcoatingswas210,000tons.Theproductionoftraditionalanicasphaltroofingfeltsdroppedfrom800millionm2in1998to400millionm2in2002,showingadecreaseofitspercentageinthetotalproductionvolumefrom69.5%to20%.Accordingtoasurveyin2002onwaterproofmaterialsusedin100largeormedium-sizedprojectsinBeijing,SBSandAPPmodifiedasphaltsheetsaccountfor60.91%,polymersheetshave14.61%andPUandacrylicwaterproofcoatingshave21.41%.ThesurveyshowsremarkableprogresshasbeenmadeinthepromotionofnewwaterproofmaterialsinBeijing.
Thereare25productstandardsandtechniquecodespiledorrevisedforguaranteeofqualitywaterproofingworks.
Thetechnicalequipmenthasbeengreatlyimproved:14policy-metSBSandAPPasphaltsheetproductionlineshavebeenbuiltfrom1999to2003,bringingaproductioncapacityincreaseof60millionm2,nearly20polymersheetproductionlinesincludingEPDMandPVChavebeensetupwithaproductioncapacityincreaseof30millionm2.Besides,arollercuttingasphaltshinglelinedesignedinChinawasputintooperationin2001,ametalsheet(lead-tinalloy)wassuccessfullyproducedandhasbeenappliedonplantedroofs.

Internationalexchangingandcooperationisenhanced.Manyadvancednewproducts,newtechnologyandequipmenthavebeenimportedfromthedevelopedcountries.8AmericanpaniesandpaniesfromFrance,SwitzerlandandBelgiumhaveenteredintothewaterproofmaterialmarketinChinaplayinganactiveroleinpromotingthewaterproofingtechnologydevelopment.
