Abstract:Coupled-modeequationsarederivedfromMaxwellequationsformodelingoflow-contrastcubic-latticephotoniccrystalsinthreespatialdimensions.Coupled-modeequationsdescriberesonantlyinteractingBlochwavesinstopbandsofthephotoniccrystal.Westudythelinearboundary-valueproblemforstationarytransmissionoffourcounter-propagatingandtwoobliquewavesontheplane.Well-posednessoftheboundary-valueproblemisprovedbyusingthemethodofseparationofvariablesandgeneralizedFourierseries.Forapplicationsinphotonicoptics,weputeintegralinvariantsfortransmission,reflection,anddiffractionofresonantwaves.

Abstract:WeformedSinano-pillararrayusinginductivelycoupledplasma(ICP)etchingofSiwithNinano-dotmask.FortheformationofNinano-dotmask,NiwasdepositedonSisubstrateusingsputtering.Throughrapidthermalannealing(RTA)ofNilayerat700°C,Ninano-dotarraywasformedonSisubstrate.Effectsofetchingparameterssuchasrfpower,biasvoltageandgaspositiononthemorphologiesofSinano-pillararraywereinvestigated.OptimumetchingofSiwithNinano-dotmaskwasobtainedunderthebiasvoltageof90V,powerof1500WandgaspositionofCF<,sub>,4<,/sub>,(70%)andsulfurhexafluoride(SF<,sub>,6<,/sub>,,30%).Sinano-pillararraywithadiametersmallerthan50nmandaspectratiolargerthan10wasformed.

Abstract:Theopticalpropertiesofthree-dimensionalphotoniccrystalsassociatedwiththeformofreflectionspectrafromtheirsurface(appearanceofaforbiddengapintheenergyspectrum)andwiththespecificfeaturesofRamanscatteringareanalyzed.Idealizedmodelsoftheenergybandstructureofphotoniccrystalsarestudied.Expressionsforthegroupvelocityofphotonswithenergyclosetotheforbiddengaparederived.ExperimentalresultsontheRamanscatteringinphotoniccrystalsbasedonartificialopalaswellasinfusedsilicaarediscussed.Bandsduetoquantum-sizeeffects(presenceofnanoclustersinfusedsilicaandnanoglobulesformingthelatticeofglobularphotoniccrystals)weremanifestedinthespectraofinelasticlightscattering.ItisproposedtousephotoniccrystalsforthecreationofsensitivesensorsofanicandinanicsubstancesusingmodernRamantechniques.

Abstract:Wenumericallycharacterizeanoveltypeofaphotoniccrystalwaveguide,whichconsistsofseveralrowsofperiodicallyarrangeddielectriccylinders.Insuchananopillarphotoniccrystalwaveguide,lightconfinementisduetothetotalinternalreflection.Ananopillarwaveguideisamultimodewaveguide,wherethenumberofmodesisequaltothenumberofrowsbuildingthewaveguide.Thestrongcouplingbetweenindividualwaveguidesleadstotheproposalofanultrashortdirectionalcouplerbasedonnanopillarwaveguides.Wepresentasystematicanalysisofthedispersionandtransmissionefficiencyofnanopillarphotoniccrystalwaveguidesanddirectionalcouplers.Planewaveexpansionandfinitedifferencetimedomainmethodswereusedtocharacterizenumericallynanopillarphotoniccrystalstructuresbothintwo-andthree-dimensionalspaces.
