Abstract:TransverseMagic(TM)andTransverseElectric(TE)opticalBlochwavesarethegenericsolutionsofMaxwell'sequationsintwo-dimensionalphotoniccrystals(2D-PhCs).WepresentanintuitivedescriptionofthesewavesbasedontheirFourierdepositionintoseriesofelectromagicwaves.ThepropertiesoftheseelectromagicwavesaswellastheircontributiontotheglobalenergyandgroupvelocityoftheglobalBlochwavearediscussedforeachpolarization.Thisdescriptionprovidesasimpleandintuitivemethodtounderstanddispersionandgroupvelocityeffectsin2D-PhCs.

Abstract:Inthispaperwearemodelingtheinterplayofmaterialandformbirefringenceinphotoniccrystalfibers.Weintroduceanefficientnumericalmethodforthecalculationofthemodalstructure.Ourapproachreliessolvingthefullyvectorialwaveequationforthetransversemagicfieldandtherespectivepropagationconstantsusingaplanewaveexpansion.Themethodaccountsforasimpleformofmaterialanisotropy.Ouranalysisisrelevanttocertainapplicationareas,andinparticulartofibersensing,wherematerialbirefringencearisesforinstanceduetotransversallyappliedmechanicalstress.Weanalyzetheinfluenceofmaterialbirefringenceonthemodalbirefringenceandthestateofpolarizationofthefundamentalmode.

Abstract:Thefinite-differencetime-domainmethodwasusedtoanalyzebandstructuresintwo-dimensionalKerr-nonlinearphotoniccrystalslabs.Atriangularlatticeofcircularairrodswasconsidered.Resultsshowred-shiftingofthebandstructureduetothenonlinearityandtheincidentintensity.Thered-shiftofthebandgapbetweenthefirstandthesecondbandsismaximalwhentheairrodradiusisintherange0.2ato0.25a,whereaistheperiod.

Abstract:Thekiicsofmorphologicalevolutionsofgoldnanoparticlesonalumina,resultingfromevaporationandsurfaceOstwald-ripeningcoarsening,havebeeninvestigatedbymeansofAugerelectronspectroscopy.Whenthefractionofthecoveredareaissmall,thekiicsofevaporationcanberelatedtothedesorptionofadatoms.Inthetemperaturerange943–1043KweobtainedtheevaporationfluxJ(m-2s-1)等于4.8×1027exp[-196±9(kJ/mol)/RT].Theexperimentalactivationenergyofevaporationofgoldfromasapphiresurface,Qevap等于196±9kJ/mol,islowerthanthetabulatedvalueofenthalpyofsublimationofgold,Hsubl等于368kJ/mol.Atlowertemperatures,intherange623–778K,Ostwald-ripeningexperiments,carriedoutonnanosizedclusters,yieldthemasstransfersurfacediffusioncoefficientsofgoldonalumina,Ds(m2/s)等于2.6×10–14exp[-58±9(kJ/mol)/RT].Theseresults,providinginformationontheevolutionofgranulargoldfilmssuchasthoseusedincatalystsorsensors,areparedtopreviousdataonsimilarsystems.

Abstract:Theimpactofthesurfacetopographyofpolylactone-typepolymeroncelladhesionwastobeconcernedbecausethemicro-scaletextureofasurfacecanprovideasignificanteffectontheadhesionbehaviorofcellsonthesurface.Especiallyfortheapplicationoftissueengineeringscaffold,theporesizecouldhaveaninfluenceoncellin-growthandsubsequentproliferation.Micro-fabricationtechnologywasusedtogeneratespecifictopographytoinvestigatetherelationshipbetweenthecellsandsurface.Inthisstudythepits-patternedsurfacesofpolystyrene(PS)filmwithdiameters2.2and0.45μmwerepreparedbyphase-separation,andthecorrespondingscaleislands-patternedPLLAsurfacewaspreparedbyamoldingtechniqueusingthepits-patternedPSasatemplate.TheadhesionandproliferationbehaviorofOCT-1osteoblast-likecellsmorphologyonthepits-andislands-patternedsurfacewerecharacterizedbySEMobservation,cellattachmentefficiencymeasurementandMTTassay.TheresultsshowedthatthecelladhesioncouldbeenhancedonPLLAandPSsurfacewithnano-scaleandmicro-scaleroughnessparedtothesmoothsurfacesofthePLLAandPS.TheOCT-1osteoblast-likecellscouldgrowalongthesurfacewithtwodifferentsize
