4.2TheRelationshipbetweenTeachers&rsquo,BeliefsandTheirTeachingBehavior
Tofindoutwhetherteachersteachinlightoftheirbeliefs,analysisoftheanswerstothe2openquestionsintheTQwasconducted.Withtheteachers&rsquo,mostconcerninmind,furtheranalysisonwhetherteachersadoptedparticularstrategiestotackletheobstacleswasdirected.

Tosumup,mostteachershavenoticedtherenewalofthecurriculumandhaveperceiveditscharacteristicsandadvantages.Theyalsofoundthecurrentcurriculumtobemoredemandingfortheirstudents,owingtothedramaticallyincreasedcapacityofthetextbookandlimitedcoursehours.Inthemeantime,theycallforcoherenceofthejuniorhighandseniorhighcurriculum,andnewtestingformula.Thesearethesharedconcernofmostteachers,however,thequestionsare:Sincethey&rsquo,venoticedtheproblems,didtheyadoptparticularteachingbehaviortomakeupforthisOrhowmanyteachershaveattemptedtoOnlysubstantialobservationcouldtell.
4.2.2ObservationLogofPracticalClassroomTeaching
Bearingtheteachers&rsquo,mostconcerninmind,theauthorproceededtoanalyzeallthedataontheteachers&rsquo,behaviorintheclassroomasrecordedinthe6researchers&rsquo,classroomobservationlogs.The10-periodclassroomobservationlogsrecordedmorethan5teachersfromGradeOneandGradeTwoineverysubjectschool.Hence,thesedatacoveredarangewideenoughtorepresentthewholesubjectschool.
ClassificationandanalysisoftheobservationlogrevealedthatmostschoolsadoptedthetextbookNewSeniorEnglishforChina,whileschoolsinFoshanandNanhaiadoptedtheoneSeniorHighEnglish.Nearlyalltheschoolsappliedthetextbooksflexiblybysupplyingextramaterials,omitting,adapting,orsimplifyingthecontentstomeettheirstudents&rsquo,particularlevel.Intermsofmultimediafacilities,2schoolswerefoundtobeequippedonlywithradiosandprojectors.2schoolshaven&rsquo,tofferedoptionalcoursesyet,andonly50%ofthesubjectschoolscarriedoutformativeevaluation.Table6outlinessomeotherbasicpracticalteachinginformationcollectedfromtheclassroomobservation.
